Gary Lynn Rigg, passed away Sunday March 8,2026. He was born September 27,1941, in Defiance Ohio to the late Lauren A. and Anita F. Rigg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Lyle Dean Rigg (Sharon), of Camden Maine.
Married in 1977, he is survived by his wife, Linda Cowan Rigg of almost 49 years. He is survived by his two brothers, Lauren Lee (Sandy), of New Haven, IN. and Randal (Linda) Rigg, of Tyler TX. He also leaves seven children: Anita Mack of Defiance OH, Terri (Mark) Smith, of San Angelo, TX, Gary M. (Lisa) Rigg, of Jacksonville, FL, Susan Hicks, of Raeford NC, Michael L. (Crystal) Rigg, of Palatka FL, Robert C. Jarrett, of Huffman TX, and Jayme (James) Newman, of Huffman TX. Included in this family, is his sister-in-law Jayne Hunnicutt who he lovingly called his sister and referred to his brother-in-law Richard Hunnicutt as, my brother. He was Papaw to 11 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren. He was admired and loved and adored by all.
A career Navy Veteran of 25 years, he retired as LCDR in 1985. He received his Electrical Engineering Degree from Purdue University and his retirement goals were met as he received an MBA Degree from Tampa College in Tampa FL. Lynn retired after 12 years from the Provider Audit and Reimbursement Department of Blue, Cross-Blue Shield of Florida Inc. in Jacksonville Florida. Lynn received numerous awards, to include the Directors Award of Excellence while he was with Provider Audit and Reimbursement Department BC-BS.
After his 2nd Retirement & 30 years in Florida, it was time for a move from Jacksonville to Franklin NC our forever home. Lynn found his passion for Tai Chi in Franklin, first learning Tai Chi; leading Tai Chi in the Crawford Senior Center. He led Tai Chi five days a week at the Center, in the park and continued classes local and Internationally from his home studio. He truly loved Tai Chi and those who participated within his classes. He served on the advisory board at the Crawford Senior Center.
The family would like to thank Four Seasons Hospice and the VA for assistance and for their genuine caring and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
