Obituary
Fredrick "Fred" Smith, 84, of Franklin, NC, went to be with the Lord on November 1, 2024.
He was born on March 21, 1940, in Syracuse, New York to the late Fredrick and Louise Smith. Fred served our country in the United States Marine Corp. He then worked as a custodian at Syracuse University. He also enjoyed raising and racing pigeons with his friends in his Pigeon Club.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Smith; a daughter, Vicky Smith and two sons, Al and James Smith; two brothers Dennis and Charles Smith, two sisters, Louanne Antil and Regina "Midge" Parody.
He is survived by one daughter, Sarah Bates of Franklin, NC; one son, Fred Smith (Cathy) of Syracuse New York, a brother, Timothy Smith, two sisters, Victoria Austin and Rosemary "Sandy" Lenweaver. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 12:30pm, at East Fork Cemetery in Sylva, NC. Pastor J.D. Watson will officiate.
