Fred (Ted) Stamey, 92, of Franklin, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 31, 2024.
Fred was born in Gastonia, NC, on April 24, 1932. He was the son of the late Nelson and Marie Cook Stamey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; brothers, Jay Lloyd, Dennis, John, and Gene.
His family moved to the Higdonville community when he was two years old. He was a member of the Higdonville Baptist Church. Fred joined the military (Army) in 1951. He met Marilyn Elenbaas in Sunnyside, Washington in 1957. After a fifteen-month assignment to the middle east, they were married in Zillah, Washington in 1959. Fred spent his military career with a Topographic unit, which provided data that was used to produce military maps. A career that took him to every continent of the world. After he retired from the military in 1971, he moved to Hamilton, Virginia and was employed by the Virginia Department of Transportation, Northern Virginia district as a Transportation Engineer. Fred was a member of the Christ Fellowship Church where he was an elder. He retired from VDOT in 1992, and he and his wife Marilyn moved to Franklin that same year. Fred loved life. He enjoyed doing things with his two grandsons, Ashton and Leland Shockley. Fred attended Trinity Assembly of God Church in Otto. He also was a member of the Trinity Prime Timers.
He is survived by his daughter, Camille Stamey Tuttrup of Franklin; two grandsons, Ashton Shockley of Big Sky Montana, Leland Shockley and his wife Hillary of Franklin; one great-grandson, Samson Shockley of Franklin, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept.7th from 10-11am at Trinity Church. A service will be held at 11 am. Military honors will be delivered by American Legion Post #108 and VFW Post #7339. Pastor J.D. Watson officiating. Burial will be in Higdonville Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Terry Moffitt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Trinity Church mission program.
