Floyd Taylor
Burns
December 28, 1949 – April 29, 2026
Floyd Taylor “Buddy” Burns, 76, of Franklin, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Born December 28, 1949, in Swain County, he was the son of the late Dan Floyd Burns and Anna Jean Hughes Burns. A man of quiet strength and integrity, Buddy lived his life anchored in faith and guided by a deep sense of duty.
Buddy proudly served with the North Carolina Highway Patrol for more than 30 years, dedicating his career to protecting the people of his community. His calm presence, steady judgment, and unwavering commitment to service earned him the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of countless North Carolinians.
Outside of his uniform, Buddy was happiest in the company of his family. He loved watching NASCAR, cheering for Alabama football, and sharing simple moments with those he held dear. His dry humor, dynamic spirit, and steadfast loyalty will be remembered by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Carolyn Burns, Kathy Battle, and Charlotte Waldroup.
Buddy is survived by his wife of ten years, Nathalie Knight Burns; his children Chris Burns (Kellie), Marty Burns (Jodi), Jessica Clark (Rob), Sharon Knight (Danny Macias), Sarah Obenschain (Chris), and Liam Knight (Lanaya); his siblings Jane Jenkins, Danny Burns (Mellie), and David Burns (Pat); five grandchildren Jaylan Burns, Cayden Burns, Kyndell Adams, Andrew Burns, and Samantha West; and three great-grandchildren, Adelyn Burns, Wrenley Adams, and Lilian West.
At this time, no public services will be held for Mr. Burns.
