Obituary

Fleta Maxine Roten McClure went to be with the Lord on March 28, 2008, after an extended illness. Maxine was born on June 26, 1929. She was 78 years old. Maxine was the daughter of the Elmer and Edna Holbrook Roten. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Bob G. McClure. Her sister Jane Roten Ledford also preceded her in death. She is survived by one daughter, Maxie Mason and husband Mick Mason of Otto. She has one grandchild, Christina Mason Stokely and husband Shannon Wayne Stokely of Elizabeth City, NC; one great grandchild, Emily Claire Stokely of Elizabeth City, NC. Maxine was from a family of nine siblings. There are five surviving sisters and two brothers, Patsy Henderson and husband Sam of Franklin, Kathryn Cruse of Franklin, Martha Anne Schulthers of Toccoa, GA, Mary Sue Murray of Hendersonville, NC, Linda Roten Griffen of Athens, GA. Her brothers are Bill Roten and wife Diane of Franklin, and Tommy Roten of Franklin. There are also twelve nieces and 10 nephews.

Maxine graduated from Franklin High School in 1948. She was one of the top students in her class. She went to work at the Highlands Country Club, and then worked for Nantahala Power and Light Company in 1949 and 1950. She married Bob G. McClure in September 1951. Her only daughter was born in 1952 and her only granddaughter was born in 1973.

Maxine was an avid gardener . She always had a large garden each summer. She loved to can vegetables and she had a real knack for growing flowers. Maxine always had beautiful tuberous begonias, dahlias, geraniums and many other flowers. She continued to do all of these things till she was no longer able.

Maxine was of the Methodist faith. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for many years. She was a Sunday School director, choir director and Bible School director.

In her later years she attended Coweeta Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, sister and great grandmother. She had a very generous heart and will be missed. We Loved her so!

Funeral Services will held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Coweeta Baptist Church. Rev. Davis Hooper will officiate. Burial will be in the Wright Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Macon Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, Greenville Office, 16-A Brozzini Court, Greenville, SC 29615.
