Emlis Green Houston, Jr., 82, of Franklin, died Saturday, December 15, 2007.
A native of Macon County, Mr. Houston was the son of the late Emlis Green Houston and Emma McCoy Houston. Mr. Houston retired as Superintendent of Maintenance with Dekalb County schools. He was a WWII veteran, a member of the Franklin VFW Post 7339 and a member of the Cowee Baptist Church. Mr. Houston was preceded in death by his first wife Myrtle Duvall Houston in May 1999; seven sisters, Bertha Crisp, Beluah Speed, Bonnie Speed, Eva Frady, Tina Houston, Leliah Henry, and Mattie McCoy; and four brothers, Bob, Jay, R.L., Raleigh Houston.
Mr. Houston is survived by his wife of seven years, Lettie Bell Cochran Houston, of Franklin; one daughter, Sandra Dougherty, of Kinston, N.C.; two sons, Ronald Houston, of Easley, S.C., and Steve Houston, of Loganville, Ga.; one stepson, Buddy Cochran, of Franklin; four stepdaughters, Patsy Brown, Peggy Armstrong, Jeanie Beaver, and Bobbie Collins, all of Franklin; one brother, Eugene Houston, of Franklin; and one sister, Shirley Reagor, of Houston, Tx.. Six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, five step grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, December 18, at 2p.m. in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Stevens and Rev. Phillip Cochran will officiate. Burial will be in the Cowee Baptist Church Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Franklin VFW post 7339 and The American Legion post 108.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Macon Funeral Home.
