Eddie Burnett, age 75, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024, following a battle with agent orange exposure from his time in Korea.
Eddie was born in Macon County to the late Don Burnett and Lois Potts Burnett. He moved to Michigan as a child and returned to Macon County to spend the summers with his grandmother.
He met his wife of 56 years, Janet, in Pontiac, Michigan. There he started his career at Fisher Body before being drafted into the United States Army. When he returned, they had their son Donnie; and he continued his career with General Motors where he retired after 31 years. He then returned to Franklin, where he has resided for 30 years.
Eddie was a member of Rose Creek Baptist Church, the VFW, the American Legion, the Vietnam Veterans of America, and Roosevelt Lodge #510 F. & A.M.
An amazing man who loved without bounds, Eddie never met a stranger.
He will be remembered for his love for his family, his country, and his '58 Chevy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Donnie Burnett; and his brother, Gary Burnett.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Janet Burnett of Franklin; son in love, Bobby Hunnicutt (Katrina) of Rabun Gap; grandchildren, Devin Hunnicutt and Alliyah Hunnicutt; sister, Donette Stewart of Cashiers; sister in law, Janice Burnett of Alabama; nieces and nephew, Shelly and Kelly of Alabama, Rebecca of Valdosta, Karen Wooten of Clayton, Brian Stewart of Cashiers, and Donna Collins of Cashiers; cousins whom he loved as sisters, Deloris Davis and Debbie Lavigne; and special cousins, Vickie, Duane, Theresa, Angela, and Jason.
The family will receive friends at Macon Funeral Home on Thursday, January 2nd from 1-2pm. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 pm in the Chapel, with Reverend Randy Drinnon officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Following interment, there will be a reception held at the American Legion, 614 West Main Street, Franklin.
Military honors will be rendered by Eddie's "brothers" with the Franklin, NC Honor Guard- American Legion #108/ VFW Post #7339.
