Obituary

Ed Waldroop, 82, of Franklin went home to be with Jesus, Wednesday, December 24, 2014.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Byron G. Waldroop and Laura Green Waldroop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Sammy Waldroop and Hugh "Spud" Waldroop; three sisters, Hazel Penland, Ruth Waldroop and Jodi Sanders and a grandson, Patrick Penland. Ed was a U.S. Navy veteran; member of the American Legion Post 108; life member of VFW Post 7339; member of Macon County Bee Keepers Association and Savannah Bear Hunting Club where he was known as "Ro Ho". His father helped form the First WNC Wagon Train. Ed and his family carried on this tradition for many years. He was a member of Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Thelma Ledford Waldroop; three daughters, Sherry Vanhook and husband Billy, Terry DeVane and husband Greg, Robin Mashburn and husband Jackie and former son-in-law, Bill Penland all of Franklin; five grandchildren, Amy Anders and husband, Tim, Lindsay Wright and husband Travis, Katy Huscusson and husband Adam, Paige Penland and fiancé Chris Pendergrass and Benjamin Vanhook; nine great grandchildren, Clarke and Davis Anders, Henry, Clara and Porter Wright, Charlie Ruth Huscusson, Trey Penland, Owen Downs and Jake Pendergrass and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 28, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Don Moffitt and Rev. Tim Hayes will officiate. Burial will be in the Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and the American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Waldroop, Steve Waldroop, Adam Waldroop, Preston Sanders, Todd Doolittle, Byron McClure, Chris Waldroop, Joe Sanders and Chris Pendergrass.
