Earl Simons, age 86, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024 following complications from a fall.
Earl was born in Bryson City to the late Thomas Burton Simons and Dicie Charlotta Clark Simons. He served in the United States Army and was a heavy equipment operator with APAC- Harrison.
Even though he wasn't able to see them in his later years, Earl enjoyed collecting knives and coins. He was known for his sarcastic wit, which he proudly passed on to his family. He will be remembered sitting in his chair, chewing tobacco, and watching his tv as loud as possible.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ellen Burnett Simons. He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Clint Simons, Dent Simons, Bob Simons, Maxine Arvey, Pauline Freeman, and Jean Dills.
He is survived by his two daughters, Angie Simons Hall (Brian) and Beth Simons, both of Franklin; eleven grandchildren, Daniel Hall, Rachelle Castle, Amy Hernandez, Logan Dodge, Cassidy Williamson, Lucas Dodge, Austin Simons, Kady Hall, Lindsey Dodge, Jacob Gibson-Simons, and Elijah Simons; and seven great grandchildren, Leo Olvera, Addi Hall, August Hall, Max Williamson, Avery Hernandez, Julian Hall, and Alia Hernandez; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, July 7, 2024 in Cowee Baptist Church Cemetery with longtime pastor and friend, Reverend Lloyd V. Fish, Jr. officiating.
Earl loved animals and the family requests that memorials be directed to the Appalachian Animal Rescue Center.
