Dorothy Mae Cowart Scott, 81, of Franklin, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, December 30, 2023.
Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Maebelle Williamson Cowart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deborah Sue Scott; a grandson, Mark McClure; a sister, Betty Passmore; and six brothers, Randolph, Wiley, R.L., Jesse, Junior, and Fred Cowart. Dorothy enjoyed collecting dolls, reading, yard sales, thrifting, and going to flea markets. Many times, while doing the things that she loved, she would make new friends and often she would pray with them and share the gospel. She was a member of Watauga Baptist Church and had been attending Franklin Church of God.
Dorothy is survived by her husband and best friend of sixty-five years, Zeb Lee Scott; daughter, Kathy Stamey (Mike) of Franklin, NC; three sons, Ricky Scott (Regina), Dennis Scott (Tammy) both of Franklin, NC, and Gary Scott (Jean) of Sylva, NC; and one brother, Earl Cowart of Franklin, NC. She also has seven grandchildren, Timothy McClure, David Scott, Crystal Tucker, Ninna Durm, April Scott, Travis Scott, and Tyler Obuchowski; sixteen great grandchildren, Mykayla and Madison McClure, Eden Braelyn, Nikolas, Asher, Charlie Jo, and Maisie Scott, Cole and Johnny Scott, Payton and Kegan Prevett, Preston Wright, Haisley Durm, Kenleigh and Cole Flowers; one great great-granddaughter, Lainey Prevett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12pm to 1pm, one hour prior to the service at Macon Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 1pm on Thursday, January 4 in the chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Stephens, Rev. Randy Gregory, and Rev. David Hastings will officiate. Burial will be in the Watauga Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Thomas James officiating.
Pallbearers will be Timothy McClure, David Scott, Travis Scott, Tyler Obuchowski, Kegan Prevett, and Stuart Beach. Honorary Pallbearer will be Mike Stamey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Watauga Baptist Church cemetery fund.
