Obituary

Donna Suzzette Glover Hogsed passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023.

Donna was born in Buncombe County, the daughter of the late Jessica Elaine Smart. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by two siblings, Paula Marr, and William H. Glover III; and two grandchildren, Delaney and Dillon Burns. She was member of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Franklin, NC. She was accomplished artist and musician; she even got to sing at the Georgia Mountain Hiawassee Fair as a child and meet Tammy Wynette.

Donna spent most of her professional career in law enforcement; particularly in the area dealing with child abuse. She had a huge impact with children all over Western North Carolina. She was the first female road officer in Jackson County. Donna developed the "Ann the Can" campaign while working in Highlands, and that is still being used today. She worked as a policewoman in multiple agencies across WNC. Here are a few of the positions that she has held over the years; Child Abuse Investigator with EBCI from 2002- 2003, Haywood County Sheriff's Department – Child Abuse Task Force- Detective in Charge from 1999 – 2002, Jackson County Sheriff's Department – Patrol Officer from 1988 – 1994, Highlands Police Department- Patrol Officer from 1983 – 1988, Macon County Sheriff's Department – Patrol Officer from 1978- 1983, and many other positions over the years. She was the recipient of the Haywood County Sheriff's Office Detective of the Year Award in 2000, Heroism in the Line of Duty Award with Sapphire Public Service in 1994, and Law Enforcement of the Year in Macon County in 1984, along with numerous other distinctions.

Donna is survived by her caring, supportive, and loving husband, Doug Hogsed of Franklin, NC; children, Kristi Lambert and husband Steven of Cherokee, NC, Brad Burns of Whittier, NC, and Jeff Burns of Asheville, NC; one sister, Jimmy Lynn Glover of Cartersville, GA, and her daughters, Tessica, Kellie, Barbie, Elaine, and Chrystal; numerous grandchildren which include, Grayson Schmit, William Lee Burns, Jessica McCall, Heather Sitton, Tanner Burns, Braxton Burns, Tim Burns, Shelby Jo Burns, and numerous others; and two great grandchildren, Charlie and Leo McCall and her fur babies Yona and Bruno.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday August 5 at St. Francis Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Macon Funeral Home, prior to the service.
