Derrick Allen Hurst,52, of Franklin, NC, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, July 11, 2025.

He was born August 10, 1972, in Jackson County, NC, to Horace Allen and the late Doris Deanie Watts Hurst.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Rhonda Clouse Hurst; his son, Colby Hurst; his father, Horace Hurst; sister-in-laws, Renee (Ben) Barnes and Rachelle (Daniel) Ford; four nieces; in-laws, Delbert (Pat) Clouse, and several loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was a member of Watauga Baptist Church. He loved all the congregation members, his family, and friends.

He established and operated Hurst Guaranteed Dry Incorporated, a basement waterproofing and encapsulation company for over 20 years. He became an agent with Farm Bureau Insurance in 2021. He loved to work, ride motorcycles, and watch movies.

The family will receive friends at Macon Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Friday, July 18th. A funeral service will be held at Watauga Baptist Church on Saturday, July 19th at 2pm, with Rev. Roy Lowe, Dr. Wesley Price, Rev. Thomas James and Rev. Danny Cannon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ben Barnes, Daniel Ford, Jason Casada, Tres Rogers, Joe Culpepper, and Mark Berry. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Hedden, Tristan Ammons, George Roper, Doug Johnson, Dennis Johnson, and Kirk Johnson.
