Obituary

Deane Edwin Lauffer, Jr., 92, of Otto, NC, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, following a brief illness.

Deane was born in Freeport, Pennsylvania, to the late Deane and Emogene Lauffer. He and his wife moved from Lost Creek, Kentucky, 28 years ago to call North Carolina home.

While living in Lost Creek, Mr. & Mrs. Lauffer served as missionaries at Riverside Christian School. Deane was a dedicated teacher, band director, and administrator. After retiring to North Carolina, he could often be found playing the piano at church or for the Carolines and Prime Time Singers. He enjoyed singing, reading, teaching piano, and repairing clocks. He faithfully cared for his wife, Elizabeth, during her extended illness, never leaving her side. He attended First Baptist Church of Franklin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elizabeth, and sister Diane Heberling.

He is survived by his beloved family, including his sister Dawn (Chuck) Taylor; his children, Deane Edward Lauffer (Teresa) of Jonesboro, Tennessee, Michael Lauffer (Peyton) of Felton, Pennsylvania, David Lauffer (Sharon) of Otto, Daniel Lauffer (Donna) of Turnerville, Georgia, and Lisa Elliott (Scott) of Hebron, Kentucky; 12 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
