Dayton Imbray Mashburn, 78, of Franklin, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023.
Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Lawrence Grady and Jane Henry Mashburn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his precious granddaughter, Staci Mashburn; and seven siblings, Bruce Mashburn, David Mashburn, Nina Wood, Mildred Vaughn, Furman Mashburn, Howard Mashburn, and Gertrude Mashburn. Dayton was of the Baptist faith and loved to sing gospel music. He enjoyed working outside, mowing, weedeating, fishing, and hunting. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
Dayton is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rose Penland Mashburn; daughter, Kimberly Wojtkowski; son, Kelby Mashburn (Kisha) all of Franklin, NC; and two sisters, Rosa Wood of Canyonville, OR, and Alice Underwood of Yellow Mountain, NC. Also surviving are his three grandsons, Naaman, Dawson, and Silas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday, August 23, at Macon Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 24 at 2pm in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Morris Tippett will officiate. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108. Burial will be in the Ellijay Missionary Baptist church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Naaman Posey, Dawson Wojtkowski, Kelby Mashburn, Eric Wyke, Calvin Conley, Lloyd Mashburn, and Clay Bryson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack Henry and Warren Henry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Ellijay Missionary Baptist Church cemetery fund.
