Bobby Darrell Simons, 62, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Born in McDowell County, he was the son of Bob J. Simons and Joyce Stockton Stanfield, both of Franklin. He is survived by his three sons, Corey Simons, Chad (Erin) Simons, and Chase (Stephanie) Simons; one sister, Connie Simons Dills of Franklin; Four grandchildren, Carter, Jude, Alaric and Cash Simons – they called him "pappy."; one nephew, Michael (Lauren) Contino; two nieces, Felicia (Blake) Proffitt and Ashley (Mason) Austin; one cousin, Rhonda Freeman Williams; and several great nieces and nephews. He loved his mother and father deeply, and revered his grandfather Thomas Burton "Tommy" Simons.
Darrell also loved sports and music, particularly Steve Earle, Gary Allan, and similar sounds throughout the Country Rock genre. One of his favorite songs was "Garden Party," by Ricky Nelson. Darrell shared his taste in music with his children. He was a proud contributor to several highly successful Tom Raby coached Franklin High baseball teams. He loved to follow the UNC Tar Heel basketball and Tennessee Volunteers football programs, and enjoyed watching the Braves play when he could. Darrell had a talent for making people laugh and was liked by many in the Macon County community. He also had a knack for cooking. Those that knew him best greatly appreciated his sense of humor.
A private memorial will be announced to family and friends at a later date.
