Darlene Vestal Holden, 68, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, September 3, 2023.

She was the daughter of the late Melvin and Etta Yates Vestal. Darlene loved the Lord and fought a long hard battle with cancer for 10 years. She was and always will be the best mother and wife God could have given anyone. She loved taking care of others, cooking, canning (there was nothing she couldn't make, everyone loved her home biscuits) and enjoyed flowers. She told everyone she could about the love of God and the many times he touched her to keep living with cancer. She always believed God would touch her earthly body and he did. She loved shouting to Gospel music and praising the Lord. She loved dogs, the outdoors, her church family, and loved her daughter so very much. She fought the good fight with the faith of the mustard seed. She will always be loved and missed until we see her again in that beautiful place called Heaven. She was a member of Wells Grove Baptist Church for 45 years.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jerry R. Holden; daughter Rosea H. Zoellner (Carl) of Scaly Mtn, NC; sister, Cathy McKeighan of Nakina, NC; brothers, Alvis Vestal, Joseph Vestal, Larry Vestal, all of Thomasville, NC, Gary Dale Vestal of Charlotte, NC, and many nieces and nephews.

Her favorite Bible verse was 1 John 4:4, because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 6, at 2pm at Wells Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 1-2pm, one hour prior to the service. Rev. Steve Reeves and Joey Gibson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
