Obituary

Alex "Clinton" Ledford, age 85, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024. A lifelong resident of Franklin, he was born on June 23, 1939 to Fred and Dora Ledford. He was the youngest of sixteen children.

Clinton graduated from Franklin High School in 1958 and attended North Georgia Trade School specializing in automotive transmissions and front-end alignment. He married Louise Monteith Ledford on February 26, 1960, sharing life together for 64 years. He was a devoted Christ-follower, husband, father, sibling, brother-in-law, uncle, grandfather, and friend.

As a young man, he worked for his brother-in-law, Reid Womack, at "Reid's Esso" gas station in Franklin. He worked at various automotive shops including Slacks Auto Parts and Burrell and Conley Motor Companies. However, he is best known for his 30-year career with the US Postal Service in Franklin, NC. He retired in 1996 as the Head Window Clerk but remained active as a member of the Burningtown/Iotla Volunteer Fire Department and Board of Directors, Woodman of the World, and was a current member and deacon of Oakdale Baptist Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing, digging ramps, singing, and eating at Burger King in Franklin. As a member of Ridgecrest and Sugarfork Baptist Churches, he served as a deacon, singing leader, and Sunday School teacher. He will be remembered as one who could be depended upon and who always helped his family, friends, and strangers.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Monteith Ledford; two sons, Eddie (Teri) and Bruce; five grandchildren, Alicia, Dallas, Cherish, Cobey, and Claire; five great grandchildren, Jada, Kingston, River, Irieland, and Carter; mother of Alicia and Dallas, Abbie Peterman; sister-in-law, Grace "Aileen" Mashburn; "daughters-by-heart", Judy Haney (Kevin) and Gail Mashburn; and many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.

Preceding Clinton in death are his parents, Fred and Dora Ledford; brothers, Lee, Hershel, Howard, Crawford, John, Bob, Jack, and Fred Jr.; sisters, Ruth Mahota, Mary Margaret, and Eva Jane Ledford, Annie Triplett, Elda Womack, Virginia Mason, and Betty Clontz; Grandson, Edward Alan Ledford.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 11 from 5-7pm and funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 12 at 2pm both at Macon Funeral Home in Franklin, NC. Reverend Steve Reeves and Reverend Gary McCoy will officiate. Burial will follow in the Burningtown Baptist Church Cemetery where his Mother, Dad, and nine of his siblings are buried.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Cobey Ledford, Dallas Ledford; nephews, Bill Womack, Charles Mason, Kenneth Mason, and Kevin Haney.
