Retired Major, Clinton Joseph Barnett, Jr. went home to be with Jesus on Friday, September 22, 2023.
Born in Morristown, NJ, he was the son of the late Clinton Joseph Barnett, Sr. and Elizabeth Bouton Barnett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Michael Barnett and a brother John Barnett. Mr. Barnett was a member of Windy Gap Baptist Church and helped teach during vacation bible school. Mr. Barnett also worked with the prison ministry missions for many years. Clint loved the water and spending time boating, fishing, and diving, in memory of cherished times spent as a child with his beloved grandfather.
Mr. Barnett's passion for serving God, Family, and Country was paramount. He faithfully served his country in the United States Airforce during Vietnam. He was a fighter pilot who flew over 200 missions during the conflict, with 33 campaigns over North Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross award and Bronze Star for his service, was a command pilot and went on to serve 20 years before retiring as Major.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Norma Jean Williams Barnett; daughter, Kara Chippi of Franklin, NC, and son, Clinton Joseph Barnett III and his wife Sharon of Lutz, FL, and six grandchildren, Clinton Joseph Barnett IV, Krista Elise Marguerite Barnett, Anna Marie Chippi, Sarah Elizabeth Marguerite Barnett, Eva Barnett, and Toby Barnett.
A funeral service will be 2pm on Thursday, September 28 at Windy Gap Baptist Church. Rev. Mark Bishop will officiate. Burial will be in the Windy Gap Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1pm to 2pm, one hour prior to the service at the church.
