Cheryl Harkness, 78, passed away on June 15, 2026, at Chestnut Hills of Highlands. Born on July 19, 1947, in Pontiac, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Robert Thompson and Lois Smith Thompson.

Cheryl returned to Franklin in June of 2017 with her husband and was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Errol "Pete" Wentworth Harkness, who passed in 2023; and brothers, Craig Allan Thompson and Robert (Bobby) Thompson, and two great grandchildren Shannon and Bryen Harkness.

She is survived by her children, Michael Robert Harkness (Maria) of Altamont, FL; Kathleen Thelma McGrath (Eric) of Sugar Hill, GA; and Karen M. Robbins (Eddie) of Franklin, NC. She is also survived by two siblings, Lynne Lucas (Murphy), and Janice Nancarrow; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Macon County Senior Center or Four Seasons Hospice.
