Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Lawson Young, 77, of Macon County, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina.

Born on August 27, 1948, in Macon County, Chuck was the son of the late Hunter Young and Lucille Young.

A proud veteran, he honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as an E-4 Combat Engineer. Following his military service, Chuck dedicated more than 20 years of service to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) before retiring.

Chuck was a true people person who never met a stranger. Known for his warm personality, infectious smile, and sense of humor, he was often the life of the party wherever he went. He cherished spending time with family and friends, especially his beloved grandsons, who brought him immense joy. His love for those around him and his ability to make others feel welcome will be remembered by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by three brothers, William Gary Young, Bruce Young, and Robert Young.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Lena Cabe; his sister, Betty Ann Young; his brother, Gene Young (Shelia); two grandsons, Hunter Cabe (Adrain) and Jacob Cabe; and the excitement of his first great-grandchild, expected soon. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

A Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, in the chapel of Macon Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, prior to the service at the funeral home.
