Charles Pendergrass, 81, of Franklin, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025. Known affectionately in Franklin as "Charlie P." He was widely recognized as the life of the party and cherished for his colorful storytelling. A talented musician and lifelong lover of nature, Charles found his greatest happiness in the simple pleasures of hunting, fishing, gardening, and caring for animals. For his family and friends, some of the sweetest memories are of gathering close to listen and watch as he picked the banjo and guitar with a sparkle in his eye — both instruments he had lovingly taught himself to play.

After a full and eventful life, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Melody Pendergrass; his parents, Vester and Gaynell (Duvall) Pendergrass; and his siblings. Ray Pendergrass, Ann Ledford, Jane Dickard, and Daniel Wilson.

Charles is survived by his sons: Scott S. Pendergrass (wife Sharolette) of Oronogo, Missouri and their daughter, Alison; Robert D. Pendergrass of Franklin, North Carolina, and his daughters, Lauren and Hailey; and Tim C. Pendergrass (wife Kandie) of Aurora, Missouri, and their children, Austin, Cameron, Brea-Anna, and Sadie. He is also survived by his daughter, Andrea Boyd of Seattle, Washington, and two stepchildren: Darlene Asher (husband Brian) of Franklin, North Carolina, and their daughter, Chantelle Rondel; and Scarlett Moncus (husband Tracy) of Valley, Alabama. Additionally, he is survived by his brothers, Roger Pendergrass of Franklin, North Carolina, Darrell Wilson, and his close friend, Cody Hodgin of Franklin, North Carolina. Charles also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Charles's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the North Carolina Wildlife Commission.
