Charles Elroy
Stewart
June 26, 1944 – June 2, 2026
Charles Elroy Stewart, 81, of Franklin, NC, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
He was born in Corning, New York, to the late Sheldon and Esther Hannahs Stewart. Charles spent his early years dairy farming, a way of life that shaped his strong work ethic and practical skills. He later owned and operated his own farm for 20 years. After retiring from farming, he continued working by driving a truck delivering equipment.
In 2008, Charles moved to Franklin, where he became known as an all-around handyman who could fix or build just about anything. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Charles never met a stranger and was loved for his warm personality and great sense of humor.
He had a love for motorcycles and enjoyed taking trips, embracing the freedom of the open road. Charles shared a lifelong love with his beloved wife, Joyce, whom he met in high school. They married soon after graduation and shared 61 wonderful years together.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Graham Stewart; his sons, Robert Stewart (Tammy) of Franklin and Darren Stewart of Loveland, Colorado; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Janice Witter (Don), Carolyn Fournier, and Sharon Clark, along with twenty-one nieces and nephews.
A service will be held in New York at a later date.
Charles will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the lasting impact he had on all who knew him.
