Catherine Margaret Ellis, 89, of Franklin, NC passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024. Cathy was born on May 1, 1935, to William H Welch and Sadie L Welch in Hillside, NJ. After Cathy graduated from Hillside High School, she went on to study nursing at the Ann May school of nursing and at Fitkin Hospital in Neptune, NJ. Upon graduating, she started her nursing career, which she continued in until she retired.

Cathy was an avid traveler, enjoyed being a member of the local walking club, spent many hours gardening and quilting, and was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church.

In addition to both of her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John "Jack" Ellis, and her brother William H Welch Jr.

Cathy is survived by her two sons, John Ellis and wife Katheryn of Austin, TX, and Mark Ellis and husband Sean Dobruck of Franklin, NC; two grandchildren, David Ellis, and Karen Garner, and one great-grandchild, Nox Garner.

A funeral mass will take place at St. Eugene Catholic Church in Asheville, NC on October 14, 2024, at 10 am with the internment to follow at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at noon.
