Obituary

William "Bill" Henry Vanhook, Sr., 86, of Franklin passed away, Sunday, September 1, 2019.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Harve Vanhook and Ruby Justice Vanhook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Isabell Ray Vanhook; and siblings, Lamar Vanhook, Baby Vanhook and Gaynelle Snyder. Bill was a member of Clarks Chapel United Methodist Church. He retired from LBJ where he positively impacted the lives of his students. Many will remember him for his time spent with his cattle and the hay field. He was instrumental in getting Little League programs started in Macon County, instilling in the children that the coach is always right. Bill was a huge Franklin Panther fan; enjoyed playing baseball with The Franklin All Stars; and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports.

He is survived by two sons, William "Billy" Vanhook (Sherry) and Denny Vanhook (Sonja) all of Franklin; sisters, Garnetta Woodard (Hoyt) of Candler and Opal Embler of Asheville; brothers, Reggie Vanhook (Linda) and Ronnie Vanhook (Karen) all of Franklin; grandchildren, Kim Terrell (Brian), Amy Anders (Tim) and Benjamin Vanhook (Shana); great grandchildren, Andrew, Andrea, Anderson, Davis, Clarke, Rocco, Leo and Ivy Ray; and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 pm, Sunday, September 8, at Clarks Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Don Moffitt, Rev. Kevin Chapman, Rev. Tim Hayes, and Rev. Janet Greene will officiate. A Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 pm at Prentiss Church of God. The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 pm prior to the service at Prentiss Church of God.

Pallbearers will be Brian Terrell, Tim Anders, Benjamin Vanhook, Andrew Terrell, Anderson Terrell, Davis Anders, Andrea Terrell, Clarke Anders and Ivy Ray Vanhook.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Clarks Chapel UMC Cemetery Fund, C/O Jerry and Jean Sutton, 1822 Clarks Chapel Road, Franklin, NC 28734 or FHS Athletics, 100 Panther Drive, Franklin, NC 28734.
