Obituary

Betty Sue Hopper Allen, 83, of Franklin, NC, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born in Rabun County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Maggie McDowell Hopper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Sandra Zimmerman and Teresa Allen; and her siblings, Mable Gregory, Cora Henry, Mary Rose Helton, and Troy Hopper.

Betty was a devoted member of Oak Dale Baptist Church, where she was active in the choir, taught classes, and served in many roles throughout the years. Her faith was central to her life, and she poured her heart into her church community.

She was a beautician by trade and the proud owner of Town & Country Beauty Salon. Through her work, she built lasting friendships and touched the lives of many in the Franklin area.

Betty loved tending to her flower garden and found joy in the simple beauty of nature. Above all, she cherished her family—her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were her greatest delight.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John V. Allen; her siblings, Wanda Pritchett, Floyd Hopper (Alice), Roy Hopper (Patty), and Harvey Hopper (Cheryl); brother-in-law, Hoyt Helton; two grandsons, Mark Zimmerman (Alicia) and Ryan Zimmerman (Steph); eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 7th, at Macon Funeral Home from 1:00–2:00 p.m., with a service to follow in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Davis Hooper and Rev. Randy Gregory will officiate. Burial will be in the Snowhill Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Hopper, Stephen Hopper, Chris Hopper, Michael Hopper, Keith Henry, and Joe Allen.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of Four Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care.
