Allie Leonard Archer, 90, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023, at his home in Franklin, NC.
Allie was born in Murphy, NC to the late Jack and Marie Shields Archer. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lillian Castleberry Archer; and daughter, Rita Archer Tharp. He moved to Cartersville, GA, where he graduated from high school. He moved to Atlanta and attended Georgia State College receiving a degree in Business Administration. In 1958, he moved to Savannah, GA and established "Atlas Upholstery and Fabric Gallery." While in Savannah he was a devoted and active member of Ardsley Park Baptist Church. He served our country for four years in the US Navy during the Korean War. He trained at Whitbey Island US Naval Air Station as "RadioMan", maintaining communication systems on aircraft carriers and ships. He was proud of his naval years and always spoke fondly of his shipmates. After retiring in 1992, he and his wife Lillian enjoyed traveling and making two road trips out west with his great granddaughter. In 2008, he moved permanently to his beloved mountain home in Franklin. He enjoyed the mountain life and tending to his garden. He attended Cowee Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Archer Scott; grandsons, James Lowery III, of Stuart, FL, Adam Young; granddaughter, Shannon Tharp of Oregon; four great granddaughters, Kaitlyn Fountain, Allyson Lowery, Ariana Archer, and Abigail Tharp.
A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, December 2, at 1pm in the Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, GA. A reception to celebrate Allie and Lillian lives will be held at his home in Franklin, Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 12pm. All friends and relatives are invited.
