Obituary for William H. Seaton Jr.

William H.  Seaton Jr.
William H. Seaton, Jr., 95, died December 21, 2008 at Fidelia Eckerd Living Center in Highlands, NC. He was born in Louisville, KY but resided most of his life in Charleston, WV and later in Gainesville, GA. He was a resident of Franklin, NC for 10 years before moving to Highlands.
He attended Washington and Lee University where he received a law degree in 1936. While at W & L he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma social fraternity, OKD and Sigma, honorary fraternities and Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. He was varsity quarterback of the football team in 1932, ‘33 and ‘34. He was awarded a Card of Merit certifying All American rating and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame.
He entered the Navy in 1942 and served as the Gunnery Officer aboard three types of ships: a tanker, an invasion transport and a destroyer escort. He received a Letter of Commendation for his actions during the invasions of Sicily and Italy.
He served the American Casualty Co. of Reading, PA as Resident Manager and Legal Counsel for the State of WV. Subsequently he became President of Commercial Development Co., where he engaged in the procurement, development and sale of real estate. He also served as Executive Vice President of the Seaton Distributing Co. and then as Assistant Insurance Commissioner for the state of West Virginia. He was a longtime active volunteer an in 1970 he was elected District Governor of Lions International for district 29-0.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Goeller Seaton, who died in 1995. He is survived by son, William H. Seaton, III of Eatonton, GA and daughters, Ann Norris Seaton Schley of Franklin, NC and Marjorie Lynn Seaton of Charleston, WV. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
At his request no funeral was held. The body was cremated.
