William D "Red" Ferrell, 91 former resident of Newcomerstown, OH., and Cape Coral, FL passed away on December 16, 2009, at Angel Medical Center in Franklin, NC. Red was born on October 8, 1918 to the late James K. and Ida White Ferrell in New Philadelphia, OH. He married the late Dortha "Dodie" Clarke Ferrell on April 12, 1944. He and Dodie owned Ferrell's Paint and Supply in Newcomerstown for over 23 years before moving to Cape Coral, FL in 1967, where he owned Ferrell's Floor Coverings. He served in the Army in World War II, was a life member of the Moose, and BPOE. He served on the board of the Newcomerstown Youth Center and was a founding member of the CCCIA in Cape Coral. He is survived by two daughters, Kristy Tipton and Kerri (Scott) Schroeder, and one son, William Kim Ferrell. He was Ole' Dad to five grandchildren: Kirk (Amy) Tipton, Kara (Kevin) Ferry, Karmin (Michael) Pace, Chase Schroeder, Ben Schroeder, and three step-grandchildren: Gary (Kathy) Tipton, Steven (Terry) Tipton, and Bruce Tipton.He was blessed with three great grandchildren: Bradly Bowley, Holland Johnson, and Olivia Tipton. He was "Dad" to his two beloved dogs, Missy and Lucky. In his golden years he enjoyed jig saw puzzles, the one armed bandits at Cherokee, and the baseball channel. Besides his parents and his beloved wife, Dodie he is preceded in death by two brothers, Clarance and Frances. According to Red's wishes he was cremated and will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery beside Dodie at a later date. He is remembered as a loving Father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. Donations can be made in Red's memory to Hospice of Cape Coral, 2430 Diplomat Pkwy.
