Obituary for William "Dick" Shope

William "Dick" Shope , 98 of Franklin, entered into rest on Saturday, August 5, 2006.

A native of Rabun County, Georgia, he was the son of the late W.R. Shope and Ellen Corn Shope. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shope was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Ledford Shope, who died in 1998; two brothers, Roy Shope and Robert Shope; four sisters, Mattie Ayers, Vera Ramsey, Clyde Burrell, and Maggie "Sis" Vinson. He was a member of the Prentiss Church of God. He was a WWII Army veteran, receiving a purple heart and campaign medal with four bronze stars. He served during the Normandy Landing during the war.

Mr. Shope is survived by several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 9, 2006 in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home at 2p.m.. The Rev. Don Moffitt will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn cemetery with American Legion Post 108 and VFW Post 7339 conducting graveside rites.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Macon Funeral Home.
