Obituary for William "Bill" J. Lopes

William "Bill" J.  Lopes
William "Bill" J. Lopes, Sr., 76, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2007.

Born in Erie County, PA, he was the son of the late John B. Lopes and Julia Martini Lopes. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise S. Lopes who died in 1988. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran. He owned and operated Bill's Printing and Fort Cannon Campground for many years before retiring; and was a member of Ellijay Baptist Church. Bill loved to camp.

He is survived by his wife Edith Henry Lopes; four children, Deborah L. Jacobs and husband Captain Bradley M. Jacobs of Suffolk, VA, William "Jim" Lopes and wife Patricia, Glenda L. Kelly and husband Dennis and Stephanie R. Stiles and husband Chris all of Franklin; step children, Brenda Cook and Dean Cook and his wife Glenda all of Franklin; brother, John M. Lopes of Ft. Pierce, FL; two sisters, Marion Matthews and Janet Felix both of Ft. Pierce, FL; twelve grandchildren; one great grandchild; three step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, September 8, at Ellijay Baptist Church. Rev. Rick Potts will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Duran Wood, Will Stiles, Preston Lopes, Leland Cooper, Chris Tucker and Bruce Mashburn.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Caregiver Retreat, 125 Hyatt Road, Franklin, NC 28734 or the Ellijay Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Wanda Bolick, 80 Woodrows Lane, Franklin, NC 28734.
