Obituary for Walter Reid "`" Moffitt

Walter Reid Moffitt, Sr., 77, of Franklin, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2006 at his residence.

A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Mack Moffitt and Blanche Blaine Moffitt. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Blaine and a sister, Ruth Elmore. Moffitt was a 30 year retired USAF Chief Master Sergeant. He began his military career in the US Army as a military police officer and later enlisted in the USAF where he completed his military career. A veteran of WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, Moffitt spent his career in communications serving in Germany, Spain, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, France and England. Commendations include the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Award. Moffitt was a member of the VFW Post 7339.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rose Pelt Moffitt; three children, Walter R. Moffitt, Jr. of Lillington, NC, Vickie Sutton of Franklin, NC and Sandy Carpenter of Lake City, FL; sister, Margaret Cook of Medford, Ohio; brother, Glenn Moffitt of Caliente, Nevada; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, at Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Al Beck and VFW Post 7339 and the American Legion Post 108 will officiate.
