On the eve of the new year, Walter A. Knight’s life ended and another voice in our family has gone silent. He was the best of us, and his words will echo through our lives until we are called home. We grieve his passing as we begin to learn to live our lives without him. A native of Garrison Beach, NY, he served in the Army’s tugboat fleet and later worked in the construction industry. Walter’s free time was devoted to tireless service, both to fellow members of Alcoholics Anonymous–where he attained nearly forty years of sobriety–and to those lucky to call him family, friend, or neighbor.
He is survived by his wife, Janice A. Knight and her two children, who he embraced as his own: son Jerry W. Godown, his wife Valerie Godown & her son Joseph Pendergast, and daughter Lori A. Quinn , her husband William Quinn and their children: Quintin, Bethany and Brianna Quinn. He also leaves two sisters, Gail Knight and Bunny Verga.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Veterans Affairs Administration.
