Obituary for Walter L. Henry

Walter L.  Henry
MSgt. Walter Lee Henry, Ret., 90, of Franklin, NC, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 13, 2008.

Born in Macon Co, he was the son of the late Robert David Henry and Laura Etta Williams Henry. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy K. Henry; brother, John C. Henry; sister, Edna H. Roberts and step-sons, Sammy, Boyd and Jimmy Herring. He had been a member of the Walden Masonic Lodge #274, Greenville, SC, since 1971. Walter was a highly decorated veteran serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam; serving 21 years in the US Air Force and 5 years in the US Army. He owned several service stations in SC and Franklin. Walter was a member of Ellijay Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Henry; daughter, Leesa Henry Manley and husband James of Highlands; two step-children, Johnny Herring of Manning, SC and Jannette Cox of Charleston, SC; seven brothers and sisters, Bill Henry of Cullowhee, NC, Bobby Henry of Asheville, NC, Wiley Henry of Franklin, NC, Betty McKelvey of Atlanta, GA, Hattie Moffitt of Franklin, NC, Kathleen Woody of Hayesville, NC and Ann Green of Franklin, NC and several step-grand and great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Ellijay Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Rick Potts and Rev. Bill Sellers will officiate. Burial will be in the Ellijay Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Full Military Rites conducted by Shaw Air Force Base.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.

Members of the Shaw Air Force Base will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Davidson, Terry Woody, Tony Woody, Robert Henry, Gary Henry, Nathan Allen, Anthony Woody and Morlan Bowman.
