Obituary for Thelmalene Parker Waters

Thelmalene Parker Waters, 95, of Franklin, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023.

She was the daughter of the late Luther and Ollie Painter Parker. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis Waters; daughter, Nancy Williams; grandchildren, Jeff Massingale, Chris Waters; brothers, Robert Parker, and William “Bud” Parker; stepchildren, Michael Waters and Audrey Massingale. She was a member of Lovedale Baptist Church of Sylva, NC. She attended Sardis United Methodist Church in Asheville. She loved the Lord and played the piano for numerous churches and gospel quartets over the years. She started playing at nine years old at Lovedale Baptist Church. She was a lifelong resident of Sylva and charter member of New Hope Baptist Church in Sylva. She attended Southwestern Tech for cosmetology. Thelmalene volunteered at the VA in Asheville, having 8750 volunteer hours, and received volunteer of the year in 2010. She owned Ensley Upholstery shop and World of Hair in Sylva. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Thelmalene is survived by her stepsons, Dan Waters (Doris) of CT and Robert L. Waters II (Barbara) of NC; two grandchildren, Thel Jackson (Mike) and Mikal Denny (David); special nephews, Keith Parker (Denise) of Franklin, and Kevin Parker of Bryson City; step grandchildren, Crystal Elliott (Donald), Jennifer Campbell, and Robert Waters III (Laura), Aprille McCall(Ryan) , Allison Bass-Riccio (Doug); twelve great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of life will be held at 2pm on June 9, at Lovedale Baptist Church. Rev. Earl Holden, Rev. Avery Brown, and Rev. David Powell will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm, one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Lovedale Baptist Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Asheville VA Medical Center, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Macon Valley Nursing and Rehab Center in Franklin and the staff of Morning Star Assisted living in Sylva, for all the love showed to Mrs. Waters and her family.
