Steven “Sam” Anderson McConnell, 81, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009.
Born in Macon Co. he was the son of the late Arthur McConnell and Minnie Sorrells McConnell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lillian McConnell who passed away October 25, 2008; three brothers, Ural, B.L., and John McConnell and a sister, Jessie McConnell. Steve graduated from Franklin High School, where he loved playing football and was a lifelong FHS Football fan. He was a flight instructor and rebuilt antique planes. He was a US Navy Veteran and was very patriotic. Steve was a member of Hickory Knoll Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lou Conrad Dalton and husband Ed of Kannapolis, NC; two sisters, Mildred Hoglen and Bessie Seay and husband James both of Franklin; three granddaughters, Karen Lynne Golie and husband Rick of Concord, NC, Kristel Leigh Swayze and husband Ken of Concord, NC and Karolyn Leslie Rogers and husband Allen of Monroe, NC and seven great-grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Nathan, Mary, William, Ryann and Dalton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 8, at Hickory Knoll United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Sears will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.
The family will receive friends from 12-1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Larry Conley, Ed Carpenter, Carl Alexander, John Wilde, Bobby Key and Jerry Williams.
Bill Gallman and nephews will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
