Obituary for Richard Frank Sanford
Who was Richard Sanford?
Richard was a loving husband, father & grandfather. He was a sweet, kind, funny and gentle man. He was loved so greatly by all who knew him. Richard shared many wonderful years with his beloved wife Karen. They shared 4 handsome sons together Richard, Michael, Jason & Joseph. They also shared 11 grandchildren and was loved by his daughter in laws, Jemica and Ashley. Richard’s hobbies included going to the Rod Run, watching wrestling, and taking naps with his cat, Honey. Richard worked many years as a Mechanic; you could always find him and his sons under the hood of a car, looking at hot rods or making jokes. They will now cherish the memories of their dirty hands, the knowledge, and laughter their father instilled upon them. He was always there to tell his sons how proud he was of them; he was always one phone call away & always there when you needed him. He always made sure to tell his sons “I love you”. His wife will always remember the life-long memories they shared together, the jokes and bickering back and forth just to make everyone laugh. His grandchildren will remember how funny and playful there Popi was. How he attended their softball games & told his granddaughters “I got my eyes on you”, or even “peace out sista” with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye; even a laugh when they said it back. Those are a few of the memories and words we will hold dear. His famous saying was “it is what it is”, those were his first words when the doctor told him the news. He looked at his wife and also said “baby we’re gonna get thru this”. Although at the time the words were meant differently, but I believe if Richard was here today, he would once again say “we will get thru this”. Richard may not be here in the flesh, but we know he is in spirit. He will always be beside us, watching over us and be our angel shining down. He will live on through his sons and grandchildren in all the days to come. If his family could have one more minute with him before god called him home, they would let him do a burn-out in a 57 Chevy, playing “Bad to the Bone” all the way to Heaven’s door.
A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery.
