Obituary for Richard Fred Holzlohner

Richard Fred  Holzlohner
Richard Fred Holzlohner, 82, of Otto, passed away Friday, January 15, 2010.

Born in Union, NJ, he was the son of the late Fraser Holzlohner and Dorothy Cory Holzlohner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Scott Holzlohner. Richard was a US Navy Veteran, having served during WWII. He was a member of the Franklin Men’s Golf League, a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and Mulberry United Methodist Church. Before moving to Otto, he worked as a skilled tile setter for 45 years in West Palm Beach, Florida. Richard was a regular blood donor for many years. Before moving to Otto he donated 163 pints of blood to the Palm Beach County Blood Bank and continued to donate in Macon County. Richard was a volunteer with his wife for almost 14 years at the Cherokee WIC Program, collecting and wrapping donated Christmas gifts for all the children who were in the WIC program, sometimes over 600 gifts annually. His Cherokee friends named and called him “King Richard” and was loved by many.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Martha Von Egidy Holzlohner; five children, Vicki Lewis and husband Tom of Franklin, Robert Park and wife Rose of Otto, Michelle Park of St. Augustine, FL, Wayne Holzlohner and Donna Howell of Matthews, NC and Dana Pope and husband Ewell of St. Simons Island, GA; a brother, Fraser Holzlohner of Plainfield, NJ; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Jody Stowers, Roseanne and Doug Banner and Bruce and Marie Bonneau.

Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Father Tien Duong will officiate. Burial will be a private ceremony at Mulberry United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 17 at Macon Funeral Home.

Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
