Obituary for Rebecca Alice Barker (Akins)

Rebecca Alice  Barker (Akins)
Rebecca Alice Akins Barker, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2009.

Born in Raeford, NC, she was the daughter of the late Van James Akins and Alice Bernice McCracken. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, James Stanley Barker; sisters, Viola Elizabeth Kelly, Mary McCord and brother, Carl Akins. Rebecca loved to put together jig-saw puzzles and write poems and keep journals. She received her high school diploma from South Western in 1991 at age 67. She was a member of Patton United Methodist Church and member of the Porter Duncan Sunday School class.

She is survived by a son, Jim Barker and wife Dixie of Franklin; three daughters, Judy Essen and husband Howard of Loveland, CO, Joanne Cloer and husband Johnny of Franklin, Jeannette Overman of Charlotte and Tina Cox and husband Bert of Big Sandy, TX; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 30, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Keith Newell, Rev. Andy Cloer and Rev. Phillip Cochran will officiate. Burial will be in the Patton United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29 at Macon Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Jim Barker.

Pallbearers will be Damon Cloer, Bobby Cloer, Tim Cochran, Mike Carpenter, Chris Green, Eric Boatwright and Kris Wynn.

Granddaughters, Angela Barker, Rebecca Kaminski, Heather Ray, and Susan Cloer will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Memorial donations may be made to the Children & Youth Fund at Patton UMC, C/O Gary Holland, 65 Scroggs Rd. Franklin, NC 28734.
