Reba Janette Chastain Deal, 94, of John B. Deal Road, Franklin, NC, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2009.
Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late James Washington Chastain and Rosaline Ledbetter Chastain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Claude, Carl, Fred, Ben, Harley and Ray Chastain; sisters, Mamie Chastain, Grace C. Kell, Ann C. Vinson and Camilla C. Brown; and a grandson Mark Shannon McDowell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Reba enjoyed gardening, traveling and took much pleasure in cooking for her family, friends and neighbors. She was a member of Monte Vista Baptist Church in Mountain Rest, South Carolina.
She is survived by her husband, John J. “Jay” Deal; a son, Morris Eugene Vinson and his wife Eula of Pickens, SC; a daughter, Gladys Vinson McDowell and her husband Charlie W. McDowell of Highlands, NC; four grandchildren, Melvin Vinson of Pickens, SC, Ralph Vinson of South Carolina, Tony Vinson of Dallas, Texas and Susan McDowell Parish and husband Mark G. Parrish of Warner Robins, GA; ten great grandchildren, Brandon and Derek Vinson of Easley, SC, Channing, Connor and Chandler Vinson of Pickens, SC, Fallon Vinson of Dallas, Texas, Coree McDowell Wilson of Sarasota, FL, Brittany Dryman, Mark Shannon Parrish and Savanna Parrish of Warner Robins, GA; two great-great grandchildren, Landen Vinson and Savannah Vinson of Easley, SC; and several nieces and nephews who were dear to her.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 28, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Bud Haire and Rev. Ronnie Branson will officiate. Burial will be in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Lamar Chastain, Mack Brown, Melvin Vinson, Tony Vinson, John Long and Brandon Vinson.
