Obituary for Pauline Cable (Fouts)

Pauline Fouts Cable, age 95, daughter of the late David Clingman Fouts and Evelyn "Effie" Kimsey Fouts, died at her home on October 23, 2007. She was born and died on the land settled by her Fouts family in the l830's.

Also preceded her in death were her husband Harry L. Cable in 1971; sister Jean Fouts Hunnicutt and husband William L; brothers: Harold Fouts and wife Mattie Brendle Fouts, J.L. Fouts and his first wife Frances Rhodes Fouts;sister-in-law Polly Cable Reno and husband John; niece's husband Bill Blower.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Hugh Krag of the home, her niece Linda Fouts Blower and her family; daughters Angela Stites, Frances Stites Bennett and husband Mike and daughter Rea Lea; son Aaron Stites and daughter Adrianna all of Michigan, nephews and their families: Ron Hunnicutt and Jean Pierce Hunnicutt, daughter Lisa of Franklin and Atlanta: Larry Hunnicutt and Freda Stites Hunnicutt of Missouri, son Keith of Kansas, Roger Hunnicutt of Brevard, son Charles of Asheville; John Reno and Jackie Shetley Reno, daughter Sarah, son Jay of Canton; her father's first cousin Rebekah Ray May of Otter Creek, Nantahala Community. Also, a special caregiver who became a "granddaughter" Kim Turpin of Franklin. She leaves one first cousin in her Fouts family, Robert Fouts of Franklin, who is the last surviving grandchild of John Fouts and Rebecca Ray Fouts. She leaves several first cousins who are the children of her Aunt Alice Kimsey Welch and husband Wilburn and Aunt Myrtle Kimsey Roland and husband Arnold. Pauline was a member of the Iotla Baptist Church. She taught adult women in Sunday School for several years.

She was a retired teacher. She taught 43 years in the Macon County School System. She was a graduate of Western Carolina College (WCU now and when she began, Western Carolina Teacher College). She began her career in a one teacher school in the Nantahala Gorge. She then taught at Kyle Elementary School (Nantahala Lake was built during that time ) and at Otter Creek Elementary. She finished her teaching years at Cullasaja School, retiring in 1977.

She loved her home and the land and was an avid gardener. She leaves a treasured friend from childhood who lives across meadows from her, Nell Duvall Welch. Their summers were times of comparing the growth of each of their vegetable and flower gardens plus advising each other on the fine art of growing.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 27, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Reeves and Rev. Vic Greene will officiate. Burial will be in the Fouts Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Macon Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Iotla Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Cynthia Rowland 886 Younce Creek Road, Franklin NC 28734 of Fouts Cemetery Fund, C/O Guy Duvall, 143 Franklin Plaza Drive, Franklin, NC 28734 or Angel Hospice Fund, 170 Church Street, Franklin NC 28734.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Fouts, David Fouts, Boyd Fouts, Thomas Paul Welch, Charles Baldwin, Claude Allen and Bruce Bryant.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Ray Welch, Ed Rowland, Steve Hansen, Ben Huggins, Lattie Payne, John Sanders, Charles Hunnicutt.
