NEWSOME EDWARD CORBITT, III (a.k.a. Daddy Corbitt) 67, of Franklin, NC, went to his Heavenly home on Sunday, August 16, 2020, after a battle with cancer. He was born on October 25, 1952 in Homerville, GA. He was the son of the late Newsome E. Corbitt, Jr., and Lilla Smith Corbitt. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Larita “Jackie” Corbitt, and brother, Christopher Corbitt.

He was an ironworker/boilermaker for several years for locals 597 in Jacksonville, FL and 808 in Orlando, FL and helped build Disney World, owned a lawn company, was a real estate agent, a cable lineman, a salesman, a self-defense instructor, and an inventor with several U.S. patents including the Bait Saver Hook which he was known for. He enjoyed being with his family, his beloved dog (Bebe), hunting, fishing, golfing, cooking, praising the Lord on his guitar, and listening to his sons play music as the Corbitt Brothers Band, and his daughter’s beautiful voice. He was a Christian who loved the Lord and was a member at First Pentecost Church in Franklin.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gentry, and four children, Newsome Corbitt, IV (Kristin); Christian Corbitt (Jenny); Isaac Corbitt, Faith Corbitt Aydelotte (Nathan), and two grandchildren: Callie Corbitt and Casen Corbitt. He is also survived by his mother, mother-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and relatives as well as many others who thought of him as Daddy Corbitt.

He was always the life of the party and lived bigger than life. He could talk a mile a minute and always put a smile on your face. He loved people and was an encourager, always had a smile on his face, and would grab you up and hug you in a minute.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, caregivers, and hospice staff for being the ministering hands of the Lord to us. Also, thank you to all who diligently prayed for him and our family.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, September 19th at 10:30 a.m., at Freedom Christian Fellowship Church, 3423 Loretto Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223. Due to the Moms and other seniors attending, please bring and wear a mask. If you are health compromised or have concerns regarding Covid, we understand if you do not attend.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Newsome’s honor to any of the following would be a blessing:
• First Pentecost Church benevolence fund – PO Box 2214, Franklin, NC 28734
• Four Seasons Palliative Care and Hospice – 211 North Main Street, Hendersonville, NC 28792
• St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital – 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or at

Performing a random act of kindness would be great as well. Let us always spread Daddy Corbitt hugs to the world.

We have been so blessed by the outpouring of love we have already received during this most difficult time. It is easy to see just how special he was to all of you. Thank you!

Psalms 116:15 – Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.

1 Corinthians 15:55 – O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

John 3:3 – Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.

John 3:16-17 – For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

I have nothing but great memories of my friendship with Newsome. Here are a few examples. When he was dating Gentry, I told him that he would be crazy to let her get away. He was my hunting buddy in Jacksonville. Back then he had a custom painted pickup truck and an Alaskan Husky named Shalimar. We used to ride it on the beach with Shalimar in the back. He would yell "Showtime Shalimar" and the dog would stand up with his paws on the cab and look like a prince.
When my son became a black belt he would assist Newsome in his self defense training courses. He was very good at what he did in training people to defend themselves.
I am a CPA and Newsome would contact me on occasion to discuss his inventions and how to proceed from the accounting standpoint.
Although we haven't shared face time in many years I cherish the memories of our time together and his friendship. My friend, I cannot wait for our reunion when I, too, go home. You are truly missed!

My condolences to the Corbitt & Linville families. I can remember Newsome as a kid and how full of life he was. His laugh was contagious. I attended church with Gentry & Newsome as a kid and now attend church with his mother-in-law Joanne. I didn't know he worked on Disney World which is one of my favorite places. He has left such a Godly heritage in his family and I know he will be missed. I hope to see your family in person one day and share my thoughts in person but until then, prayers from Jacksonville.

Missing you my Brother. Thank you for your gift of courage as you walked out your life.

My righteous ones will live by faith. I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” But you do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but belong to those who have faith and are saved, healed and delivered. For faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”.
