Obituary for Myra Shomper (Bettinger)

Myra Bettinger Shomper, 88, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2009.

Born in Schuylkill County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur A. Bettinger and Hilda May Bettinger. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Franklin Shomper who died in 2000 and a son, Dennis Shomper who died in 2008. Myra was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many people. She was a quiet, soft-spoken individual, but a tirelessly hard worker. She loved working with the quilting guild and spent many hours along with other women making hand sewn quilts that were eventually raffled off or sold. The proceeds of which went back to the community in the way of scholarships to the local needy students.

She is survived by a son, Ben S. Shomper of Livingston, MT; two grandsons, Daniel Shomper of Highlands and Jeff Shomper of Asheville and five great-grandchildren, Michael Shomper, Amanda Shomper, Tiffany Gibbs, Danielle Shomper and Jennifer Stalica. She is also survived by two sisters, Faye Hand and Shirley Nasados of PA.

A private tribute service will be held at Myra’s home at 384 Baird Cove Rd, Franklin, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2009. Anyone is invited to attend that in some way was affected or influenced by Myra’s life.
