Obituary for Morris Eugene Nichols

Morris Eugene  Nichols
Morris Eugene Nichols, 81, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008.
Born on September 3, 1926 in Lyon, KS he was the son of the late Clem Bradley Nichols and Mary Madaus Nichols. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Ann who went to be with the Lord in 1957. Morris aided the WWII effort when he entered the Army Air Corp in 1944. He was discharged in 1946 with the loss of his right eye. He went on to college in 1947 at Friends College in Wichita, KS. After a year he continued his education at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS where he graduated in 1950 with an accounting degree. He married Geraldine Hull on August 26, 1950 and then started his career in a Rural Oil Co-op shortly afterward. In 1952 they moved to Belleville, KS for him to start work in the Rural Electric Co-op. They then moved on to Henderson, KY in 1965 so that he could work for Big Rivers Electric Co-op. They moved on to Ridge Manor, FL in 1973 for his job as Assistant Manager with Withlacoochee River Electric (the nation’s largest electric co-op). After nineteen years he retired and they moved to Franklin in 1992. After moving to Franklin they traveled for seven years, motor homing in Canada and forty-one of the United States. They then settled down to a quiet life near family. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and working in his flower gardens. Morris cherished his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Geraldine Hull Nichols; two sons, Michael Kevin Nichols and his wife Shari of Wakefield, MA and Stephen Eugene Nichols and his wife Anna Maria of Franklin, NC; five grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew, Sarah, Thomas and Matthew John; many nieces and nephews; and a sister Ruea Edith Reed of Boulder City, Nevada.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 3, at Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Keith Newell and Dr. John Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in Belleville, Kansas.
