Obituary for Michael Jay Stewart

Michael Jay  Stewart
Michael Jay Stewart, 74, of Franklin, NC passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

Born in Wabash, IN, he was the son of Kathleen Stewart of North Manchester, IN and the late Joseph Stewart. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by daughter, Kathleen Jaye “Kat” Stewart. He was a U.S. Army veteran from 1964-1967, serving as a Persian guided missile specialist. After graduating Stewart’s International School for Jewelers in 1973, he started a jewelry wholesale business and two jewelry retail stores in California. In 1980 he moved to Franklin and opened Stewart’s Jewelry on Main Street; and in 1985 he purchased Jamison Jewelry Store, where he worked until retiring in 2014. Mike had several hobbies he enjoyed including deep sea fishing, fly fishing, hunting and in his younger days, he enjoyed racing cars. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Joyce Bradley Stewart; daughter, Jacquelyn Stewart of Franklin; two brothers, Jim Stewart (Cass) of Cape Coral, FL and Alan Stewart (Katy) of Sarasota, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Macon Funeral Home. Rev. David Beam and Jon Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in the Bradley section of Old Savannah Cemetery, Sylva.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Eric Bates, Tyler Bradley, Matthew Phillips, Case Bradley, Caleb Bradley, Kevin Klatt and Eddie Pullium.
