Michael “Tom” Gareth Guffey, 61, of Franklin, passed away Friday, July 31, 2009.
Born in Macon Co, he was the son of the late Robert Benjamin Guffey and Clara Belle Brendle Guffey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Clydas Bishop Guffey who passed away October 8, 2005. He was a supervisor for Nantahala Lumber Company. Tom loved to bowl in the bowling league. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his brother, Jerry Guffey and wife Jackie of Franklin; two sisters, Pauline White of Franklin and Doris Jerdy Holland and husband Richard of Columbia, SC; niece, Julia McDowell; three nephews, Stacy Guffey, Chad Holland, Craig Holland and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2009 in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Eddie Stillwell and Rev. Mark Bishop will officiate. Burial will be in the Watauga Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Craig Holland, Mark McDowell, Jacob McDowell, Stacy Guffey, James Guffey, Tyler Holland, Garth Brendle and Avery Brendle.
The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2, at Macon Funeral Home.
