Obituary for Melissa Myers (Wilcox)

Melissa Wilcox Myers, 69, of Franklin, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

She was born in Baton Rouge, LA, to the late James and Evelyn Alston Wilcox. She was a past member of the Franklin Garden Club and current member of the Nantahala Hiking Club.

Melissa was a native of Saint Francisville, lived many years in Baton Rouge, then Bryson City, and the last 17 years in Franklin, North Carolina. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 and going through procedures to combat that, Melissa and Phil made the wonderful decision to do what was necessary to retire and move to their dream location in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Melissa made many lifelong friendships there, including other family, and her best friend Melinda who moved up there a few years later. She was extremely intelligent and organized, always taking care of details and handling decisions and problems. Melissa loved taking care of her house and especially her beautiful yard. The house was just finished when they moved, and Melissa made all the beautiful landscaping additions over the years. She mostly enjoyed having drinks with her husband, Phil, and any other guests they may have, while looking out at the beautiful mountains off their back deck. Melissa and Phil were the best at entertaining whether they were the host or the guests. Melissa was simply a lot of fun to be around. Heaven on Earth for Melissa was a glass of wine, her husband Phil, her mountain paradise, and great friends. Although physically gone from earth, we will feel her presence forever.

She is survived by her husband, Phil Myers; sister, Frances Amacker (Major) of Lake Providence, LA; sister in laws, Gayle Campbell of Baton Rouge, LA, Carol Benjamin (Ben) of Bryson City, NC, Vicki Hannan (Frank) of Baton Rouge, LA, Mary Locascio (Frank) of Bryson City, NC; brother-in-law, Dave Myers (Babs) of Baton Rouge, LA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
