Obituary for Max Dale McGuire

Max Dale McGuire, 93, of Otto, NC went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

Born in Avery County, he was the son of the late Lee Roy and Bertha Church McGuire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Arch McGuire; and three sisters, Rosalene Tugman, Lucille Moore, and Nell Schreiner. Max was a member of Coweeta Baptist and a past deacon. He enjoyed woodworking, going on mission trips, and singing in the choir. Max loved spending time with his family and spending time at the farm in Avery County.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 73 years, Bill McGuire; and four daughters; Sharon McConnell (Charles) of Otto, NC, Marcia Crawford (Mark) of Franklin, NC, Judy McGuire of Otto, NC, and Beverly Penland (Steve) of Franklin, NC. Max is also survived by eight grandchildren; Scott Crawford, Steve McConnell, Jason McConnell, Lindsay Crawford Meyers, Katie McConnell Kennedy, Whitney Penland, Jordan McGuire Clay, and Elizabeth Penland Brown; thirteen great grandchildren; one bonus daughter, Janice Tyler of Mountain City, GA; and numerous other extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, March 22, at Macon Funeral Home.

The Celebration of Life will be at 2pm on Saturday, March 23 at Coweeta Baptist Church. Rev. Keith Ashe, Rev. Davis Hooper, and Rev. Steve Reeves will officiate. Tony Jones will be sharing special remarks with the family. Burial will be in the Coweeta Baptist Church Cemetery.
