Obituary for Margaret June Hedden
Margaret “June” Hedden, 84, of Lilburn, GA passed away on November 18, 2020.
Born on February 17, 1936 in Jackson Co., NC, she was the second daughter of the late John Quince Hedden and Emma Stewart Hedden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Hester Keener, Barbara Ledford, and Hope Calloway; one brother, Dwight Hedden; and lifelong friend, Sylvia Brown.
June graduated with honors from Anderson Hospital School of Nursing in 1963. She was a proud RN working in Highlands, NC and then Atlanta, GA until her retirement in 2004. She was awarded as an outstanding RN in the early 1990s, but her care extended far beyond the walls of the hospital. The first one to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or a kick in the pants, June cared for others in a way that was selfless and compassionate. Spending time with her family, God-given and chosen, was her favorite pastime. She also loved to play cards, speed around the back roads of Cashiers in her baby-blue 1963 Ford Fairlane and tell heartwarming yet hilarious stories about growing up in the mountains with seven sisters.
The stubborn, adamant, dedicated love she gave to the world will persist and multiply for the rest of time through the beloved ones surviving her: four sisters, Mary Keener of Highlands, NC, Shelba McFarland of Virginia Beach, VA, Helen Justice of Hendersonville, NC, and Alice Lee of Knoxville, TN; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Janet Tipton and Virginia Smith; the group of wonderful women who played cards with her every weekend; and countless others, all of whom she adored.
A private service will be held at Stewart Cemetery in Cashiers, NC on Sunday,
November 22.
Due to COVID restrictions, the family requests mask be worn and social distancing be practiced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stewart Cemetery Fund, c/o Carl Stewart, 3295 Yellow Mountain Rd., Cullowhee, NC 28723.
