Obituary for Margaret Ann Friedling (Hilliard)

Margaret Ann Friedling, went to be with the Lord Monday, January 15, 2007, in a peaceful passing at Angel Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Paducah, Kentucky to the late Curtis Hilliard and Ona White Hilliard. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Jack Friedling. Margaret loved travel and adventure. She was proud of her service in the Navy. She loved the story her friend Shirley Hunter wrote about her in the Franklin Press some years ago. Shirley wrote about Margaret visiting with her daughter Linda in Atlanta, visiting the World Congress Center during a salute to Women Veterans. Shirley writes, "Margaret met a lady in Atlanta that was stationed in Washington, DC when she was there in '44 and '45 at Wave Quarters A, two blocks from the White House. It was a time for Nostalgia. Margaret was a girl of 17 when she joined the service. A time when a girl from a small town in Kentucky felt the excitement of Patriotism." Shirley also wrote "It was April of '87 when Margaret toured with quilters in the Netherlands and Great Britain. In 1988 the Dutch visitors came over and her Dutch hostess visited her in Franklin." Margaret traveled several times in Europe, the Holy Lands, all across the U.S., Hawaii and Alaska. One of her favorite trips was a New Years Russian Tour she shared with her daughters.

Margaret loved Franklin, NC, her many friends from here and Florida and her extended church family from Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. She has participated in many community activities over the years including serving as a Hospice Volunteer and Pink Lady at Angel Medical Center. She was a member of the local chapter of the Red Hat Society, the Sunshine Singles and the Tuesday Prayer Group.

She leaves behind daughters, Elaine Grace of Tallahassee, FL and Linda Friedling of Tampa, FL; sons, Charles Peter Friedling and John Friedling both of Franklin and Paul Friedling of Tampa, FL; granddaughter, Kathryn Friedling of Jacksonville, FL; grandsons, Nathan King of Seattle, WA, and Joseph and Jason Friedling both of Tampa, FL. Those who know and love her know the world will be a less colorful place without her.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, January 19, at the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 70 Trimont View Drive, Franklin. Rev. Ronald L. Odum will officiate. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of your choice or Tuesday Prayer Group Missions.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
