Obituary for Margaret "Peggy" Douglass (Broaddus)

Margaret B. Douglass, 185 Hillcrest Circle, died at home December 12, 2006.

Margaret (Peggy) was born in 1927 at Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of the late Richard Franklin Broaddus and Mary Lancaster Broaddus, deceased. She is survived by husband, James E Douglass of Franklin, two sons Richard B Douglass and wife Victoria K Douglass of Franklin and Gregory S Douglass and Linda R Douglass of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, two grandsons, Jason E Douglass and Eric J Douglass, a granddaughter Leanne F Douglass, two great granddaughters, Morgan V and Ashlynn J Douglass, a great grandson Eric R W Douglass, a brother-in-law Bernard A Douglass and wife Sue, and a sister-in-law Katherine Whitehurst.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church for 44 years serving in various positions in the church. She graduated from Salem College in Winston Salem in 1948 and later from the University of Georgia in 1970. She taught school in Virginia and Bamberg, Germany, before marrying in 1953, and in East Lansing, Michigan, before moving to North Carolina. She taught in both grade school and high school in Franklin before retiring in 1987 after 25 years of teaching. She was a member and officer in the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was also a member of the NCRGE, NCAE-NEA, and of local teaching organizations.

A memorial service will be held at the Franklin's First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 15. Rev. Wayne Allen and Rev. Maria Edmonds will officiate. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 66 Harrison Avenue, Franklin, NC 28734 or Angel Home Health and Hospice, 170 Church Street, Franklin, NC 28734.
